Get Your Green On for Mental Health and Trauma-Informed Care Awareness Month
Healthier Jupiter theme: GET YOUR GREEN ON THURSDAY
Healthier Glades: The Mask You Live In Community Presentation
The Mask You Live In follows boys and young men as they struggle to stay true to themselves while negotiating
America’s narrow definition of masculinity.
Pressured by the media, their peer group, and even the adults in their lives, our protagonists confront messages
encouraging them to disconnect from their emotions, devalue authentic friendships, objectify and degrade women,
and resolve conflicts through violence. These gender stereotypes interconnect with race, class, and circumstance,
creating a maze of identity issues boys and young men must navigate to become “real” men.
The Mask You Live In ultimately illustrates how we, as a society, can raise a healthier generation of boys and
young men.

Palm Beach County Youth Services Department Lunch & Learn: Let's Talk About Race/Ethnicity: The Impact of Implicit Bias and Microaggressions
Join Palm Beach County Youth Services Department’s Education and Training Center for a virtual Lunch &
Learn. Dr. Danniella Jones will present “Let’s Talk about Racial/Ethnicity: The Impact of Implicit
Bias and Microaggressions.” Racial microaggressions are everyday insults and demeaning messages directed
towards Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) by typically well-intentioned people who are unaware of the
hidden messages being sent to them (Sue et al., 2007). While they may seem small, they often lead to
discriminatory practices and effect the mental health of those impacted. This presentation will describe how our
implicit biases impact our language and behaviors (e.g. microaggressions) as well as explore their impact on
BIPOC. Finally, it will provide strategies for individuals to increase their awareness of implicit bias as well as
reduce the impact on others.
